The Ukrainians of Donbas: film screening and meeting with the film director

We invite you to the screening of the “The Ukrainians of Donbas”, a documentary, which provides an insight into the life of civilian family in the Eastern Ukraine. The author of this film, well-known Ukrainian documentary film director, journalist and activist of the Ukrainian volunteer movement, Ruslan Gorovyi, will be there to answer your questions.
 
Oleksandr and Viktoriya Kononov are the family of farmers. Despite the fact that Oleksandr lost his leg and arm because of an accident, he didn’t give up. On the contrary, together with his wife, they developed their farm. But the hostilities in Donbas broke out, and after an unrecognized referendum their village turned out to be on the occupied territory. It is a story about tensions, captivity, torture and the spirit of not giving up and standing for one’s beliefs. It is also a story about present and future of Donbas.
 
Ruslan Gorovyi is a famous Ukrainian journalist, documentary film director, novelist and civil activist. Through his long-time exposure to the conflict in the Eastern Ukraine, he has gained insights into the situation beyond the “Ukrainians of Donbas”, thus after the screening he will be open to your questions.’
