What is the Islamic State: History and Politics
Thursday, April 9th, 2015. 17:30 - 19:00
The unexpected rise of the Islamic State (ISIS, IS, ISIL) movement in Syria and Iraq is challenging not only the Arab and Muslim World, but the security in Europe and North America. It has generated a jihadist movement across the globe with offshoots for recruitment of jihadis around the world, especially in Europe. The military power of IS and its ability to take control over many important parts raised serious questions about the history and politics of the Islamic State. What is the Islamic State?
Is the Islamic State Al-Qaeda or new competitors to Al-Qaeda? Will the IS continue to expand? What is the coalition doing? How do IS justify their horrific acts? What is the future of the IS?
Free for members, 20 SEK for everyone else. A one year membership can be purchased for 50 SEK before the lecture.
