From the anarchists to the islamists: four waves of modern terrorism

The lecture will focus on the four waves of modern terrorism from the ‘Anarchist wave’ (late 19th cent) to the ‘Islamic wave’ (post 1979), via the ‘Nationalistic/Anti-colonialist’ wave (post ww2) and the ‘Leftwing wave’ (1960s-70s). Questions such as what victory looks like and how do we know when terrorism is defeated will also be discussed during the lecture.
Anders Persson is a political scientist at Linnaeus University, Sweden. He is also expert commentator on the Middle East on Swedish TV and radio. His latest book The EU and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict 1971-2013: In Pursuit of a Just Peace was recently published by Lexington Books in the United States.
This is a free lecture from the Society of International Affairs in Gothenburg and there will also be free baguettes for the first 30 attendees.
