Movie Screening: Iraq in Fragments

Wednesday, April 5th, 2017. 17:30 - 19:30

The Event Committee of the Society of International Affairs in Gothenburg in co-operation with Cinema Politica welcomes you to the screening of the documentary ‘Iraq In Fragments’.

Iraq In Fragments shows Iraq in three parts, through the eyes of the Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds. The documentary offers a series of intimate, passionately felt portraits: A fatherless 11-year-old is apprenticed to the domineering owner of a Baghdad garage; Sadr followers in two Shiite cities rally for regional elections while enforcing Islamic law at the point of a gun; a family of Kurdish farmers welcomes the US presence, which has allowed them a measure of freedom previously denied. American director James Longley spent more than two years filming in Iraq to create this stunningly photographed, poetically rendered documentary of the war-torn country as seen through the eyes of Sunnis, Shiites and Kurds.

‘Iraq In Fragments’ was nominated at the Oscars in the “Best Documentary Feature” category, as well as for an Emmy. The documentary has also received numerous awards, including three at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival: “Directing Award Documentary”, “Editing Award Documentary” and “Excellence in Cinematography Award Documentary”.

The screening is free and open to everyone.
