Belarus: Europe’s last dictatorship and Eastern European crisis

We invite you to the lecture by JURAS STANKIEVIC, Head of Communications, Belarusian Popular Front Party and BROOKS NEWMARK, Lecturer and Research Associate at the Centre for International Studies, Politics Department Oxford University.
 
Mr. Stankievic will speak about the situation in Belarus and how Russia and Ukraine influences it, and complex Belarus-Sweden relations. Mr. Newmark will speak about the very roots of the crisis in Eastern European countries, such as Russia and Ukraine, and what kind of impact that will have on Belarus’ future.
 
Juras Stankievic is a young journalist, international election observer and a democratic opposition politician from Belarus. Arrested and imprisoned multiple times in Belarus, Juras continued his work in opposition and also has worked for the Moderate Party at the Swedish Parliament having previously been an adviser on Eastern Europe at the Moderate Party International Office. During the years 2014-2015 he was Vice-Chairman of the International Young Democrat Union, the world’s largest youth alliance.
 
Brooks Newmark is an expert on Eastern Europe and Middle East, Former Minister for Civil Society in David Cameron’s government 2010 – 2015 and UK Member of Parliament 2005 – 2015.
