The Many Faces of Nigeria
Wednesday, November 5th, 2014. 16:30 - 18:00
A seminar on the challenges for civil society, sustainable development and education in Africa’s largest economy.
In April, Nigeria made the news all over the world with the #BringBackOurGirls campaign, following the abduction of over 200 Nigerian school girls by the militant group Boko Haram. Despite its 170 million citizens, oil resources, and second largest film industry in the world, Nigeria rarely made the news in Sweden, prior to this. However, the new democracy is struggling with armed conflict, inequality, corruption, and human rights abuses. With elections in Nigeria next year, this is a crucial time for an engaged debate on democracy, civil society and peace building in a country recently declared Africa’s largest economy.
Join us on Wednesday evening for a discussion with Hauwa Mahdi & Tove Ivergård of the Women’s International League for Peace & Freedom (IKFF).
Cost: 20 kr for non-member and 50 kr for a membership
