It’s Friday, Friday!
Let’s take your seat at the last day working day, before launching that Friday night and meet with the Head of Model United Nation, Cressida De Witte!
PR: Please introduce yourself a little bit:
Cressida: Hi everyone, my name is Cressida, 24 years old, originally from the Netherlands and currently studying a Master of Global Studies at the University of Gothenburg.
PR: What made you join the UF?
Cressida:Last semester I was looking for an activity besides university. I came across Model United Nations and got excited to meet new people, discuss and learn about new topics and the UN as an organisation. From here it was an easy decision to join the UF as well as the UF board since they offer a lot of activities and increases my knowledge about the UN.
PR: What according to you is the most current problem facing the word and what do you think is a suitable solution?
Cressida: I think the biggest challenge in the world at the moment is the move towards extremism and populism. The move towards extremism puts people in a position that they have to choose a radical position and let emotion overtake knowledge. Besides this, they become self-centered within a globalised world and are not open to some discussions and rather avoid topics that are, however, important. It would be great if I would have a solution right on the spot. Nevertheless, I think that a different, more open and knowledgable approach towards each other and issues would help resolving this trend.
PR: What are your thoughts on the environmental issues ?
Cressida:I think that we should take the environmental issues very serious. It is a fact that the world is changing rapidly because of all our emissions. The existing discussion is good in order to spread awareness to those that do not recognise environment to be an issue. However, I do think that we should start with ourselves first instead of waiting for governments to act or by telling other people what to do. For example, taking the bus instead of the plane from time to time, take shorter showers or eat a little less meat. In the end, we are all in this together.
PR: If you were to meet a genie, what two wishes would you wish for? For the world and personally.
Cressida:For the world I would wish for more understanding between people. This understanding should lead to more peaceful discussions rather than violent conflicts. Having less conflicts would automatically resolve some important issues, such as displaced people and poverty.
For myself, I would wish that I will find a job that I will make me happy while making a difference to some degree.
PR: Where do you see yourself 10 years now ?
Cressida:In 10 years I hope to be happy with a good job somewhere in the world.
PR: What is your hobby ?
Cressida:In my free time I like to hang out with friends, travel, etc. Just like any other person 🙂
PR: What is your favorite movie ?
Cressida:I do have a lot of favourite movies and they change all the time..
PR: And finally Star Wars or Lord of The rings or Harry Potter ?
Cressida:I know I should be ashamed of myself but I have not watched any of those movies so I cannot pick a favourite. If I’d have to, I would choose Lord of the Rings due the fact that it has been filmed in New Zealand. (and New Zealand is an amazing and beautiful country)
