Afghanistan -a war torn country seeking a future.

Tuesday, January 27th, 2015. 16:30 - 18:00

After 35 years of war and violence, Afghanistan is looking for a road to a peaceful future. Much has evolved in the country in recent years – more children are in school, a free media have emerged, the infant mortality rate has decreased. But other problems are still piling up – deep ethnic divisions, a weak central power and escalating violence against civilians makes the way forward highly uncertain.

Anna-Karin Johansson is the secretary general of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan, an organization with about 6,000 employees in Afghanistan working to strengthen the most vulnerable people in the country. SAK operates schools for more than 120,000 students, health care for more than 3.2 million patients and also works with rural development and the rehabilitation of people with disabilities.
