The Paradise Papers leak has once again shown, that the world’s richest individuals and biggest companies are able to hide a significant amount of their wealth offshore to avoid paying taxes. Tax avoidance and evasion amount to hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of revenue lost for countries around the world. This money could be used by the governments to provide public goods and services. Instead, this money ends up in the pockets of the wealthy, and in that way also contributes to global inequality. What is to be done, and what should be done, to ensure that the world’s elite pay their fair share of taxes?
