Should we accept global economic crises as an unfortunate side-effect of the free market?
‘Marx Reloaded’ is a cultural documentary that examines German philosopher Karl Marx’s ideas for understanding the global economic and financial crisis that shook the world in 2008-09. Today the full implications of the crisis in Europe and around the world still remain unclear. The documentary considers, in the context of an alleged revival of Marxist thinking, whether “communism might provide the solution to the growing economic and environmental challenges facing the planet”. In addition to interviews with the world’s leading philosophers of Marxism, the film also comprises interviews with skeptics of this revival. It also includes light-hearted animation sequences which follow Marx’s adventures through the matrix of his own ideas.
The screening is free and open to everyone. After the screening you can join us for a discussion about the film in a nearby pub.
