UF Board Elections 2018

Tuesday, November 28th, 2017. 08:00 - Tuesday, December 12th, 2017. 23:55

Are you interested in international affairs? Would you like to take part in developing one of the largest and most well-known student societies in Gothenburg? In that case, you might be who we’re looking for!

The Society of International Affairs (UF Gothenburg) is looking for dedicated and ambitious students for the board of 2018. The overarching goal of the association is to spread knowledge and promote debate and discussion about contemporary issues in international politics. Apart from pursuing that objective, being a board member will enable you to develop and demonstrate your skills in leadership, budget planning, organization and more.

The available positions are:

President:
As the president, you lead the work of the board and manage relations with external contacts of the association. If the other board members need help with their tasks, you should also help them out. Among the responsibilities are also calling for meetings with all board members and being the outmost responsible person in external relations. Occasionally, the president may be required to represent the association in different contexts, such as speaking at conventions or participating in social events.

Vice President:
As the vice president, you share some of the tasks of the president. You’re also the main responsible person for applying and reporting on grants, together with the treasurer. The responsibilities also include helping other board members out in moments of need.

Treasurer:
As the treasurer, you manage the bookkeeping and administer ingoing and outgoing payments. You’re also the one selling membership and entrance tickets at our lectures and events. Together with the vice president, you’re responsible for applying for and reporting on grants.

Secretary:
As the secretary, you register new members at our events (including our lectures and film screenings) and administer our member register. You also write the protocols at the board meetings. The position offers freedom in the sense that you can help develop the UF’s structure and budget. It is a great experience to learn how the society works from an economic, legal and organisational perspective.

Heads of the Lecture Committee:
(2 positions)
As the heads of the Lecture Committee, you plan and host lectures weekly throughout the semesters. Important tasks include managing your budget, booking lecture halls and coordinating security measures on some instances, as well as organizing the work of the active members in the committee effectively. As a fun bonus, you’ll have the chance to go out and have dinner with many of the invited lecturers.

Head of the Event Committee:
(2 positions)
As the head of the Event Committee you are responsible for the film club, study trips, debate café and quiz nights. For the film club, you’re responsible for selecting documentaries to screen and host these events every other week throughout the semesters. The study-trip abroad is arranged every semester and you are the leader of these trips. The trips are funded through a combination of grants and participant fees, so keep in mind that going on trips requires you to spend some of your private money. The debate café “Fika Politica” is organized once a month around a topic related to the current state of affairs internationally: you will be responsible for finding a topic and moderating the event. The quiz nights take place once a month, around “fun” themes with a touch of international politics to it; you will be the head of these events. Besides these tasks you will also be able to organize social activities for members, for instance parties.

Head of the PR committee:
(2 positions)
As the Head of PR you have multiple areas of responsibility. These responsibilities include organizing class visits, arranging a welcome mingle for new students, informing on how to become active in the Society of International Affairs at events and updating the Society’s social media channels and website. You will also be responsible for writing weekly newsletters, designing posters for events, strategically plan how to market the events together with the other committees and leading the High School Project.

Editors-in-chief of Utblick:
(2 positions)
As the editors-in-chief of Utblick, you lead the work of the editorial staff of our quarterly magazine on international affairs. Important tasks include managing the contact with the printing house, providing feedback to writers’ ideas as well as editing the magazine before it goes into print. You’re also encouraged to keep the website of Utblick updated with new articles.

Head of Radio Utblick:
(1 position)
Radio Utblick focuses on the issues of today’s society from a global perspective. As Head of Radio Utblick, your task will be to make sure the radio show is regularly broadcasted. You will work with a team and for every program decide on a theme, make interviews, record, edit and then broadcast. Once broadcasted it’s your responsibility to advertise the program and make it available online.

Head of the MUN committee:
(2 positions)
As the head of the Model United Nations committee, you recruit participants for local simulations and delegates for conferences in Sweden and abroad. In organizing the local simulations, you research topics and provide guidelines to the participants. You also chair the sessions. In organizing participation at conferences, you make applications to participate and prepare together with the delegation. You also coordinate practical matters like travel and housing. To assist you with these tasks, you have the active members in the MUN committee. Accommodation and travel to international conferences are only partly funded by grants, so keep in mind that holding this position requires you to spend some of your personal money.
