Fika Politica: The Relevance of Nuclear Weapons

The Event Committee of the Society of International Affairs in Gothenburg welcomes you to our café debate ‘Fika Politica’!

Fika Politica consists in gathering people interested in international matters around one topic in order to discuss and debate it. Fika Politica aims at having people conversing and learning from one another through discussion. A short presentation of the topic will precede. No previous knowledge on the topic is required. Fika (coffee/tea with biscuits) will be served.

The topic for this Fika Politica is “The relevance of nuclear weapons”. Tensions between North Korea and the USA as well as Japan have drastically arisen over the last few weeks with several nuclear tests on the Korean part. Iran has also been subject to new sanctions in relation to nuclear energy. However, it had seemed that nuclear weapons had become obsolete until these events: nuclear weapons were rarely spoken of, with countries appearing to do without. So what is the relevance of nuclear weapons?
